Warqaad's Trend Radar monitors four distinct signal types to identify what's actually happening in Somalia. Search Interest (Google Trends) shows public curiosity, rising when diaspora search for a topic more than usual, though this is relative change rather than absolute numbers and indicates interest rather than importance. News Momentum tracks how many credible outlets (Reuters, AP, Guardian) publish about a topic in 24 hours. When 8+ outlets independently cover the same story, editorial consensus confirms it's legitimate news and worth attention. Social Signals measure verified-account discussions on X (journalists, officials, institutions) and YouTube engagement, filtering out random users to show how credible voices are amplifying a story. Institutional Signals capture official statements from governments, the African Union, IGAD, the United Nations, the World Bank, IMF, foreign ministries, and humanitarian agencies. These are the highest-confidence signals because official announcements often break before news outlets report them, giving policymakers and researchers early warning.
The real power emerges when multiple signals align on the same topic. When Search Interest, News Momentum, Social Signals, and Institutional announcements all point to Somalia Elections, that is high-confidence trend worth tracking.
